BIG WILDLIFE LAUNCHES "WAR ON CARNIVORES" LECTURE SERIES

This spring, Big Wildlife will launch a lecture series -- The War on Carnivores --  to help educate the public about the ecological importance of carnivores and threats facing them, as well as to empower citizens to take action on behalf of these magnificent, keystone species. Our first program, open to the public, will be held April 2 at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland. We are also scheduling talks throughout the Northwest and are open to giving the presentation at house parties. If your would like to schedule a presentation in your community, please contact Brian Vincent at 604-618-1030 or at big_wildlife@shaw.ca

SCIENTISTS FIND KILLING COUGARS CAUSING CHAOS

Scientists studying cougars in the Northwest have concluded expansive killing of cougars is increasing conflicts with humans and domestic animals. According to a front page story in the Sunday edition of the Seattle Times (Is Cougar Hunting Breeding Chaos, March 16), biologists have found “instead of reducing conflicts between cougars and humans, heavy hunting seems to make the problems worse.” To read the story go to: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004285453_cougar16m.html ,

Centuries of Persecution, Horrific Cruelty, AND Sterile Ecosystems

The expansive killing of native carnivores has been a common practice in North America since European colonists arrived. In more recent years, lethal damage control programs and trophy hunts have taken their toll on wolves, bears, coyotes, bobcats, and foxes across the continent.
